Not a hard decision to install a new Minn Kota Fortrex

After using a 101lb Fortrex on my last boat, I knew how they worked and wouldn't buy a different brand motor. For the 16'9" Tuffy, I decided an 80lb 24v Fortrex would do the job. Plus there wasn't room for a 3rd battery so the decision was easy. I put two 29 series batteries up front in the battery compartment. Then I wired up the Marinco plug to provide the 24 volts. I installed a quick release mount on the front deck. This makes it nice in the event you want to quickly remove the trolling motor. There is a double stainless pin with a lock that holds it secure. All you do is take off lock and pull pin and the whole motor lifts up off the boat.

I've had the boat out a couple times now and the power this motor provides is unbelievable. The first trip was windy and after a day of fishing the batteries were still like new. The lift assist is a great feature that comes standard with this series motor. Weeds are no match with a Minn Kota motor. That is probably the number one reason I stay with them. Check out the pictures below of the trolling motor mounted to the boat.
