Why I decided to install an 8' Pro Power Pole

After seeing the power pole used by non sponsored bass pros, I knew it had to be good or they wouldn't use it. I started to research this product and found some people with negative thoughts such as "You can only use it during the spawn" and "With one you will just go in circles". I started making a list of scenarios where it would benefit my fishing. It didn't take long to realize how many uses I would have for this. As far as the "circles" myth, you need to use your head a little bit and use the wind to your advantage. If you plan on fishing a submerged tree, head towards it with the wind and then lower the pole down. Once "anchored" the wind is going to keep your boat pointing with the wind. Of course if you try to anchor in a 15mph cross wind it's going to blow the front of the boat downwind.

After deciding to buy a Power pole, I started looking for a good buy on various sites. One morning I received a 20% off coupon for any product on a certain website. I jumped at the chance to buy the 8' black Pro Power Pole. After receiving it, I needed to decide if I was going to mount it to the transom or buy an adapter plate. Since my new Tuffy Magnum was a light boat and has a very solid, straight transom, I decided to mount directly to the boat. I put the motor down, tilted it all the way to the left to make sure I had clearance and then held up the template I had made and marked the spots. I then held the pole bracket up to double check. The biggest thing is to drill the 4 holes at the right angle into the transom. Once done I put black silicone in the holes, on the bolts, and around the bracket on the side that would mount to the transom. You don't want to overtighten the bolts or you'll wreck the rubber backed washer that is used. Once the pole is mounted you need to find an open area near the bilge area and mount the pump, relay and remote units. After these are screwed down you just snap the hydraulic hose in and you're ready to go. I filled the pump resevoir with oil and then pushed the rocker switch. There wasn't even any priming of the pump or purging of air, it just worked flawlessly. Next I grabbed a remote and pushed the down button, it worked with no configuring. The unit is installed and ready to take out on the water.
