Why Side Imaging?
If you want to learn a lake fast, a Humminbird Side Image unit is a must have. The unit will allow you to scan up to 240' on each side of the boat. Now you can make a swath along the breakline and see weedlines, pockets, rocks, fish, trees and other valuable structure all in one pass. Why fish a mile of weedline when you can key on small portions of it that contain rocks or other fish holding cover? Every lake has some secrets out deep, and this is the way to find them. I've learned more in one day with my side image unit then what I learned fishing the same lake for 10 years with the old regular sonar. I always use to fish Bass shallow because I always felt lost when fishing deep. Yes, you knew what was directly under you, but you had no idea what was all around you. Now when fishing deep, if you get off the weedline you just look at your screen and know exactly where to fire your next cast to be on it again. Previous to owning a side imaging unit, I'd always hear people talking about finding the "spot on the spot" and wonder if the spots I found were really that. Now one pass over a spot and you can see with your own eyes the sweet spot. Below are some images I've taken with my side image over the past few years.
